Teaching Assistant Course with PET-Xi Training

Teaching Assistants are in high demand across Coventry and Birmingham right now.   This programme was designed specifically to get work-ready candidates into TA roles fast — in just 3 weeks, with a nationally recognised qualification, a funded DBS, and a guaranteed interview with a live employer. If your clients and participants are serious about working in education, this is the fastest route in.

 

What is the programme?

PET-Xi Training, in partnership with Applebough Education, is running a fully funded 3-week Teaching Support Roles programme in Coventry and Birmingham. The programme is designed to get motivated, work-ready clients and participants into employment as Teaching Assistants in local schools.

 

There is no cost to eligible learners.  At the end of the programme every learner has a guaranteed job interview with Applebough Education.

 

Who is it for?

The people who are :

• Aged 19 or over as of 31 August 2025

• Living in the WMCA area (Coventry, Birmingham, Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Solihull)

• Unemployed or economically inactive

• OR on Universal Credit with take-home pay below £952/month (sole adult claim) or £1,534/month (joint claim)

• Have the right to work and lawful residency in the UK

 

What does the programme involve?

• Monday to Friday, 3 weeks full time all online

• Covers safeguarding, SEN, child development, behaviour support, CV writing, and interview preparation

• Includes the Highfields Level 2 Award in Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Young People — a nationally recognised qualification

• Includes Prevent (ACT) certification

• Enhanced DBS application initiated and funded during the programme

• Job interview with Applebough Education in Week 3

 

What will clients and participants learn?

The programme covers everything a candidate needs to walk into a Teaching Assistant role with confidence. Across the 3 weeks, clients and participants will cover:

 

Week 1 — Foundation and Registration Getting started in education — programme induction, individual learning plan, British Values in schools, full Highfields Level 2 Safeguarding qualification, Prevent (ACT) certification, DBS application, CV writing, and time management in educational settings.

 

Week 2 — Knowledge and Classroom Readiness The Teaching Assistant role in depth — SEN and the SEND Code of Practice, health and safety in schools, the PACE model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) for supporting vulnerable children, and interview preparation using the STAR method.

 

Week 3 — Professional Skills and Employment Teamworking in schools, Equality and Diversity, mental health awareness, online safety, and final interview preparation — culminating in a formal job interview with Applebough Education.

 

By the end of the programme every client and participant will hold a nationally recognised safeguarding qualification, a Prevent certificate, an education-specific CV, and have completed a real job interview with a live employer.

 

What happens at the end?

Every client and participant who completes the programme has a formal job interview with Applebough Education for a Teaching Assistant role in a local school. Successful clients and participants go straight into paid employment. Unsuccessful clients and participants are supported with alternative job opportunities through PET-Xi's employer network.
