Applying for a place at a Secondary School

Posted on: 4/11/2025

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Prospective Year 7 Open Evenings! We’re thrilled to share that this year’s events were a huge success with attendance numbers well up from last year. And a big thank you to all our staff and student helpers for making both Open Evenings a success.

At both schools, our Headteacher/Head of School’s speeches and school tours were so popular that we were at full capacity.

In Coventry and Warwickshire, parents or carers must apply through their local council for a secondary (Year 7) school place. For example, in Coventry & Warwickshire the online application opens from 1 September and must normally be submitted by 31 October for entry the following September.

Applicants list their preferred schools (typically two to six in Warwickshire, three in Coventry) in order of preference. The councils allocate places based on published admissions criteria (such as siblings, catchment area, distance), and on National Offer Day (for instance 2 March for Warwickshire) families receive the outcome. If a child is not offered one of the preferred schools, they are placed on waiting lists and may appeal the decision.
